UT
Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas seeks nominations for
and expressions of interest in the position of Vice
President for Development.
UT
Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, founded as
Southwestern Medical College in 1943, is a broad based and
comprehensive medical center with international recognition
for its research and clinical activities.
Located on a 261-acre tract just north of downtown Dallas,
UTSMC is comprised of three degree-granting institutions:
Southwestern Medical School, Southwestern Graduate
School of Biomedical Sciences, and Southwestern School of
Health Professions. The three entities
currently train more than 4,200 medical, graduate and allied
health students, residents and post-doctoral fellows each
year. In addition, some 3,500 research
projects receive approximately $361 million in annual
support. The more than 1,750 full-time
and 250 adjunct faculty include four active Nobel Laureates,
18 members of the National Academy of Sciences, and a large
number of other physicians who have been honored for their
research and clinical activities. Faculty
members and residents provide care for 97,000 hospitalized
patients and approximately 1.7 million outpatients per year
at UT Southwestern University Hospitals, Parkland Health &
Hospital System, Children's Medical Center Dallas and the VA
North Texas Health Care System, as well as the Aston
Building, the Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center,
and other affiliated hospitals and clinics in North Texas.
UT
Southwestern’s annual budget, which is approaching $1.45
billion, is supported by state revenues, clinical practice,
federal and private grants, substantial annual gifts from a
variety of donors, and an endowment in excess of $1.2
billion. UT Southwestern recently
completed a comprehensive campaign, Innovations in
Medicine, raising in excess of $700 million to secure
its place in the top tier of medical institutions.
Areas of support include comprehensive programs aimed
at discovering and testing new treatments, cures and
preventive strategies for cancer, neurological disorders
such as Alzheimer’s disease, spinal cord injury, mental
illness, heart disease and stroke, and pediatric and
development disorders.
Reporting to the president, the vice
president for development will have overall responsibility
for planning, staffing, and executing the Medical Center’s
development program. This individual will
serve as the chief development officer and will work with
the Medical Center’s senior management team and volunteers
and leadership at the Southwestern Medical Center Foundation
to lead the effort to consolidate, systematize and grow the
Medical Center’s fund-raising effort.
The
Medical Center seeks a candidate with superb relationship
building, leadership, and administrative capabilities, a
deep interest in the mission and programs of UT
Southwestern, and the ability to build and enhance a
world-class development program.
Interested individuals may submit materials to or request
more information from Manny Berger or Lucy Leske, the Witt/Kieffer
consultants supporting UT Southwestern in this search, at

submissions are strongly encouraged.
